Screenshots are the first thing most people try, and the first thing the other side attacks: they cut off timestamps, skip messages, and look easy to edit. A better approach is to use Instagram's own data export, which contains every message in the conversation with its exact time and sender, and turn that into a clean printed record.

Step 1 — Get the conversation from Instagram

In the Instagram app, open Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
Choose Download or transfer information, pick your Instagram account, then Some of your information and tick Messages.
Choose Download to device. Set the date range to cover the conversation, and set Format to JSON. Set media quality to High if photos matter.
Tap Create files. Instagram emails you when the ZIP is ready — often within minutes, sometimes a few days. Download it before the link expires.

Step 2 — Turn the export into a readable record

The export is a ZIP of computer files (JSON), not something you can hand to a judge. Open the free tool, drop the ZIP in, and pick the conversation. You get:

A cover page with the participants, date range, number of messages and the time zone used.
Every message in time order, each with date, time and sender name.
Photos from the chat placed where they were sent, plus reactions, shared links and “unsent” markers.
Page numbers and a Bates number (for example IG-000001) on every page, and an exhibit label.
A SHA-256 fingerprint of the original file so anyone can check it was not changed.

Step 3 — Print or file it

Save as PDF, then print as many copies as your court asks for (often one for the court, one for the other party, one for you). Keep the original ZIP from Instagram unchanged in case its authenticity is questioned.
